Water damage is an issue we all try to avoid as homeowners. There are various measures to try and stop the problem from happening, but just because you don’t see water doesn’t mean that it isn’t slowly getting in. There are a few things you may do to help prevent water seepage.
“Make sure the grading around the foundation is properly pitched away and also adjacent concrete patios, driveways or sidewalks are pitched away,” said Terry Polinski of A-Advance Water Proofing.
With the fall season approaching, leaves and debris in gutters can also be an issue to monitor throughout the season.
“Check to see if the rain gutters are clear of any debris and also make sure the downspouts have extensions up to 10 feet away or in confined areas as far away as possible,” added Polinski.
If a water issue does arise and you have executed the steps above, you may have a drain tile issue and should have an experienced licensed contractor test the drain tile system to diagnose the problem.
Other elements to look for include damp walls and wall discoloration in your basement.
